It is often said that trust once lost is difficult to regain.
Around the world we have examples of what I consider to be a choice phrase that has made the headlines “Lies, Half Truths and Innuendos”. At times innuendoes is replaced with the word “manipulations”. I recant the phrase, because it strikes me as the root cause of the loss of trust between leaders and followers. Over the last fortnight, I have had cause to pause and wonder, if as Leaders, we fully appreciate the impact of the “Lies, Half truths and Innuendoes” we tell and couch in the term “Strategic Communication”.
The reality is that whatever we colour or label them, a lie is a lie and cause for diminishing trust. Team and organisation wise, this results in dysfunctionality and reduced productivity. Is that what we really want to achieve?
The next time you are about to utter a lie, half truth or innuendo, I suggest you take a Time Out to reflect on the full implications.
Time Out …….. the intentional cessation of an incomplete task
