Time Out …………. Completing the Jigsaw Puzzle

It is amazing how much of our knowledge goes unutilised because of our busyness.

I quote Peter Ng, Chief Investment Officer at the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation. “The unrelenting globalisation of business requires more business travel, which strains family life. Being involved in an international business across multiple time zones is taxing on both the physical and mental capacities of more and more executives. And of course the advances of telecommunication and technology, which have produced electronic mail over the internet, keep many of us constantly on our toes. In the past, the home or vacation time provided much needed refuge from work and the office. But today, the executive is hooked to the Blackberry. You can see this most vividly in how quickly the business traveller whips out the Blackberry device the moment a plane lands at an airport, anxious to find out what messages had been sent to him while he was in the air. I can say this from experience, because I have done it three or four times just in the last two days as I travelled here.”

Does that sound like you or anyone you know? It certainly sounds like me in an “unmindful mode”.

The busier we allow ourselves to be, the less time we devote to reflection, a practice that is key to pulling together the pieces of our knowledge and information jigsaws to create the full picture. The other piece of the jigsaw that disappears during our busyness is the access to our intuitive knowledge, a tool which successful CEO’s have espoused as integral in their decision making process and their ultimate success.

At Meredith McSween International (MMI) we pride ourselves on our facilitation of Time Out opportunities that rapidly create those “Aha!” and “Eureka!” moments in participants as they discover their untapped knowledge, intuition and engage in expansive thinking Time Out …….. the intentional cessation of an incomplete task, because the urgency to complete the puzzle is greater than our need to complete the task.
