Recently I had the opportunity to listen to a series of talks by Glenda Meakin on “Listening to the News with a Contemplative Heart.” The news today whether locally, regionally or internationally is filled with tales of demise. It relates stories of social, economic, political and spiritual fabric being eroded. It is not surprising then, that our conversations at social gatherings, are filled with recants of these messages, punctuated with opinions with what we think “they should be do”.
Today I pondered on the “what if” we listened to the news with a contemplative heart and were to actually take a “Time Out” during our social banter about the state of our country. Time Out…….. the intentional ending of an incomplete task. And during that Time Out we were to shift the conversation to begin to explore how each of us as individuals could do something to make a difference.
Today on facebook, my friend Derek Walcott posted “Remember this my beautiful friends: When Jesus comes again he will not ask, “What did your neighbor do?”, but “what did you do?” If we lose the pearl of great price in the eternity of happiness God has offered to us—it will not be the fault of others. The fault will be ours and ours only. Because we refused to pay the price.”
What then are you going to do, so that at the end of any given day you can say “Today I made A difference”
